- We grind them wet. Each blade is clamped on the bed of our professional sharpening machine and the grinding wheel passes the full length of the edge under a constant flow of coolant. Keeping the steel cool is what stops the edge losing its hardness, and it is the difference between a proper regrind and a blade blued on an angle grinder.
- Pick them up, often the same day. If the machine is free when you arrive, we can sometimes sharpen while you wait. Call first and we will tell you honestly what is possible.

Why Proper Chipper Blade Sharpening Matters
Most chipper blades we see have been touched up with an angle grinder at some point. It gets the crew through the afternoon, but every freehand pass takes the edge a degree or two further from the bevel the blade was made with, usually somewhere between 30 and 45 degrees depending on the machine. After a few rounds of that the blade is cutting at the wrong angle, so it blunts quickly, the chipper has to drag material through instead of slicing it, and you end up replacing a set that had plenty of steel left in it.
A machine regrind takes off the minimum of steel and leaves a clean, even edge along the whole length of the blade, so each blade lasts more sharpens over its life. After grinding, the edge is straight, bright and even from end to end.
